Here is a summary of the Open Field hunt in NM, USA written by the Judge from Saturday's Hunt.

How you all be;
Surprise, two good days of coursing in NM. Saturday was long but the sportsmanship was excellent and the gallery appeared to be having a good time with their dogs.........finally.
Saturday we had a mixed and a saluki breed hunt. Six entered in the mixed and thirteen entered in the breed. We needed 14 hares to run each dog twice. Most of you would think that was an impossibility in NM. The gallery, with Mr. DB  hunt mastering, found 11 coursable hares, running
each dog in the mixed hunt twice but only running the saluki's once. I think we
needed two more hares to be able to run all saluki's twice. We were all pretty proud of that!!

Now I was the judge and I saw the whole show. I stood on top of my pickup and was able to see almost all the coursing. Just one course I did not have complete visibility. Cai, the Galgo, had one of the best courses I've ever seen. Long, long course with a lot of work in heavy, heavy brush. Willow
the greyhound ran very well for her first time out showing a lot of bottom.
Emily the deerhound was there at the very end of a long course when Camille started
turning the hare...It was amazing watching her work the course out never
getting thrown out. Rusty (saluki) had an amazing course with a long call rabbit,
working hare on the fence, fencing x2 and then following hare out where he lost it in the brush. Another new coursing dog Willow (saluki) showed a lot of speed and agility but did that awful thing of stopping in the middle of the course while the other two saluki kept going after the hare. She will learn to honour the other dogs and then watch out!

Now Sunday was the day to go coursing in NM. Beautiful sunny day, no wind and rabbits! We had an open mixed hunt with eight dogs entered.....guess Saturday had tired the folks out. We ran every dog twice and were done at 12:30....Dan Bunn was the judge and he said the coursing was great. He was positioned on top of a hill were he saw much more of the courses then we did.
And the amazing story must be told of what happened at this hunt............I mean I've never seen it happen in all my thirty years of coursing. The rabbit got up close with its ears down, Cai the galgo was on the hare, two saluki's did not see it but trailed Cai until they became sighted. Cai coursed
the hare up the hill and out of our sight. We waited it seems a good amount of time and then someone said they are coming back.....but wait, they are still on the hare! The saluki, Sir was ahead now and right on the hare. The hare worked closer and closer to the gallery with Sir turning it. Closer yet. Closer yet. So close that one of the gallery dogs turned the hare, the hare ran into Mr. SG with a big thud, bounced off Steve's lower legs and Cai grabbed it!! I mean we all couldn't believe it.....it was like slow motion but happening so fast. Steve says he's putting a claim into our insurance for injury in the field!
